About the MasterClass
You are invited to join the new online Masterclass in Aeroelastic modelling
of wind turbines with HAWC2!
Aeroelastic modelling and simulation is a core part of wind turbine design: it is a required analysis needed for certification, determining the design loads of the turbine’s main components, and can be used to investigate operational strategies balancing power production against loads.
HAWC2 is developed by DTU Wind and energy systems and is used actively in our research projects. Our users include major OEMs, certification agencies, developers, owner/operators, engineering consultants and academic research institutes.
In this webinar, we will introduce HAWC2, what it can be used for and how it is being developed at DTU. We will then present the updated online self-paced HAWC2 course—a seven-module programme covering structural, wind, aerodynamic, control, hydrodynamic and soil modelling—which also includes a license for HAWC2.
The session closes with a live demonstration of the VS Code extension for HAWC2, a powerful tool that makes everyday work with HAWC2 models considerably easier, from setting up and editing input files to catching errors before you run.
Whether you are new to HAWC2 or a current user, join us to see what the tool offers today and how the course can support your work.
You will leave the masterclass with
An understanding what HAWC2 does and why DTU Wind develops it.
A helicopter perspective of HAWC2’s modelling capabilities.
A basic understanding of why a tool like HAWC2 is needed for the design and operation of modern wind turbines.
An overview of the online self-paced HAWC2 course.
Live demonstration of the VS Code extension showing how to work with a HAWC2 model in practice.

2.
30-40 minute presentation of the masterclass.
3.
20-minute Q&A about the masterclass.
Jenni Rinker is an Associate Professor at DTU Wind and Energy Systems and an instructor in courses using HAWC2 and HAWCStab2. Her work combines research and teaching in wind turbine dynamics, aeroelasticity, and lidar-based wind field estimation, with HAWC2 serving as a central tool for simulation and analysis.
Ana Margarida Antunes is a Postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Wind and Energy Systems at DTU, specializing in structural and multibody dynamics of wind turbines. Her research focuses on the modeling and analysis of wind turbine response and loads, primarily using the aeroelastic simulation tool HAWC2.
Esperanza Soto Sagredo is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Department of Wind and Energy Systems at DTU, specialising in inflow reconstruction and modelling and their influence on wind turbine response in aeroelastic tools such as HAWC2. Her research combines wind-field reconstruction with reduced-order modelling to advance turbine response and lidar-assisted control for large wind turbines.
